Bentonite API

Bentonite is a type of montmorillonite clay that meets API 13A standards, widely used in oil and gas well drilling due to its unique properties, including the ability to increase the viscosity of drilling mud. It acts as a thinning and stabilizing agent for drilling mud and helps maintain the stability of well walls.

In drilling, bentonite is useful for creating a mud cake on the walls of the well, which prevents the walls from collapsing and aids in controlling the pressure of the drilling fluid. Due to its high capabilities in increasing viscosity, bentonite not only stabilizes the well walls but also assists in transporting drilling chips from the bottom of the well to the surface.
