Gilsonite

Gilsonite, known as a form of natural asphalt, is used as an additive in oil well drilling operations for drilling mud. Due to its unique physical and chemical properties, including increasing the viscosity and stability of the mud, Gilsonite is highly beneficial.

Gilsonite plays a role in enhancing the blackness and viscosity of drilling mud, leading to improved drilling efficiency and reduced risk of mud leakage to the well walls. This additive also acts as a binding agent, which can be useful in increasing the adhesion of the mud to the walls of the borehole.

Economically, Gilsonite, as a locally available substance, can be a cost-effective option. Moreover, from an environmental perspective, it is relatively low-impact and has less environmental effect compared to some other chemical additives.
